The Uks Top Ten Most Haunted Locations
Here are the top ten most haunted locations in the UK as suggested by our members and viewers of the website. Bear in mind the UK has centuries of history of murder, war, torment, conflicting religions and cultures all lending to a positively jam packed isle of haunted locations. 1) Chillingham Castle (Northumberland).
Regarded as one of the most haunted places in the UK this 12th century stronghold was built with one purpose, killing!

2) Bodmin Jail (Cornwall).
From our personal experience this has to be one of the most haunted places we've been to. This 18th century jail has a tormented history of hangings, pain and suffering. Some of the residents still wander the corridors and cells to this day to greet any intrepid investigator willing to brave the experience.

3) Pendle Hill (Lancashire).
This is the scene of Britains most famous witch trial. Ten of the so called Pendle Witches were hanged at Lancaster in 1612 and their ghosts reputedly haunt the near by village which lies in the shadow of the hill.

4) Woodchester Mansion (Gloucestershire).
This 17th Century Gothic style Georgian mansion was unexplainably abandoned in mid build, some say for paranormal reasons. It has been the epicentre of many strange ghostly sightings and EVP recordings.

5) The Red Lion Inn (Wiltshire).
This 400 year old inn is situated within Aveburys mysterious stone circle, long associated with paganism and witchcraft. Visitors have reported strange goings on including orbs of light, weird shadows and cold spots.

6) The Ancient Ram Inn (Gloucestershire).
Stories attached to this the oldest pub in Britain make many haunted places look positively benign. This 12th Century Inn built on a pagan burial ground is the location of murder, satanism and child sacrifice.

7) The Jamaica Inn (Cornwall).
This 18th Century smuggling inn on Bodmin Moor is the focus of eerie cloaked figures, unexplained footsteps and tales of murder.

8) Blickling Hall (Norfolk).
This stunning Jacobean house is the National Trusts most haunted building and is the sighting of a phantom horse and carriage and the headless ghost of Anne Boleyn.

9) The Tower of London.
Its history as a place of torture and imprisonment ensures no shortage of headless, tormented souls hanging around.

10) Culloden Moor (Inverness).
The last battle to take part on mainland Britain was fought here on this barren moor in 1746. As befits such as bloody battle, where Jacobite prisoners and wounded were ruthlessly massacred by the orders of the Duke of Cumberland. The landscape is said to echo with the anguished cries of the men who were slaughtered there.

Here are a few of the other locations which were also considered for the top ten. We feel they warrant a mention due to the frequency of the paranormal activity experienced there.
Berry Pomeroy Castle (Devon).
Ghost hunters calling at this 15th Century castle are spoilt for choice with several female ghosts causing people to feel inexplicably uneasy.

Chingle Hall (Lancashire).
Built in 1260 this building houses a poltergeist among other apparitions including several monks and a women held cative for 12 years and subsequently murdered.

Hampton Court Palace (London).
The stately home of many an interesting historical character including Henry VIII the unique atmosphere of this building houses a screaming lady and where CCTV has captured heavy doors flying open.

Llancaiach Fawr Manor (Wales).
This Tudor manor house near Caerphilly has many ghosts that appear bold as brass and are still fighting the Civil War. Its like a living museum frozen in the year 1645 with ghosts in period costume still raging a bloody war.
